My name is Barry Janzen. I am a high school teacher of English, Media Arts, and Photography at Mount Douglas Secondary School in Victoria, BC. I am married with 4 children ranging in age from 19 to 3. I have been a teacher for 21 years during which I have witnessed an explosion in the evolution of technology in education. I began my career writing out lesson plans and sequencing music on a Mac Plus with no hard drive; booting up an application would be an exercise in patience. I couldn’t even leave to get a coffee because it was necessary to exchange disks several times during the process. I was on the cutting edge of video production editing linearly using two VCR’s; that was an exercise in inaccuracy.

Now I work out of a Mac lab with 25 computers where I teach everything from Poetry to Documentary Film Making. Twenty years from now I will probably look back at my lab and laugh at it’s obsolescence.
